Ever wondered what all the buzz is about in Columbia, PA? Well, it’s amazing shops, retail, makers and artisans that are choosing to do business in our historic and charming river town!
How it all started
Deb Brandt and Justin Rule met early in 2024 to talk about how to generate greater awareness around the emergence of Columbia’s revived river town and the exciting new places to eat, drink, shop, stay overnight. The answer was simple: FIG! We came up with a lot of different photo concepts and ideas, but the weather would not cooperate for our photoshoot so with less than 24 hours notice, State Theatre Vintage Emporium prepped their main stage for a photoshoot… before their grand opening!
What an example of the local, smalltown spirit as everyone pitched in, showed up, and made it happen – even before the heating was connected in the building! (Thank goodness for some great Discover Columbia hoodies to wear!)
We talked to local vintage destination shops and decided we would theme our “revived river town” article around coming to explore the new businesses in town for a day.
The release party fun
Since Justin’s youngest daughter was in the main photo, we had to make sure she made it to the release party at the ‘Stormers’ (newly branded Lancaster Barnstormers) retro arcade Fig release party!
She battled CYCLO and skeeball…
… tried out the epic retro pinball machines…
…enjoyed some dessert refreshments overlooking the ballfield…
… and had to grab a selfie with her dad 🙂
Of course, whenever Discover Columbia does anything, we have to be a blessing and share the generous Columbia spirit with those we meet. So we brought the FIG team a set of #DiscoverColumbia merch so they can show off the best river town in America!
